CoinSnap
An app that identifies a coin from a photo and estimates its value.
What CoinSnap does
CoinSnap is a coin identifier from the team behind Rock Identifier. You take a photo of a coin and it tells you what it is, when and where it was made, how rare it is and a rough market price. It works on iPhone, iPad and Android, and most of the depth sits behind a yearly Premium plan.
Point your camera at both sides of a coin and CoinSnap matches it against a large catalog of world coins. You get the name, country, year, mintage and a rarity level, plus a price range based on market data. It can also flag possible error coins and build a grading-style report with an estimated value.
Your finds go into a collection you can sort by series, and the app keeps a running total of what it thinks the whole collection is worth. That makes it a nice way to sort a jar of old coins or a box you inherited.
Treat every number as an estimate. A photo can't show fine wear or tell a cleaned coin from an original one, and those details move the price a lot. If the app says a coin might be special, have it checked by a dealer or a grading service before you sell or buy. Also expect a paywall: Premium comes with a 7-day trial, and the store page lists several prices without spelling out which plan is which, so check the price on the screen before you tap.

Questions people ask
Is CoinSnap free?
It's free to download, but most features need Premium, a yearly plan with a 7-day free trial.
Can CoinSnap tell me what my coin is worth?
It shows an estimated price range. Real value depends on condition, which a photo can't fully show, so get valuable coins checked by a dealer or grading service.
Does CoinSnap work on Android?
Yes. It's on Google Play as well as the App Store.
Does it only cover U.S. coins?
No. It identifies coins from many countries.
