What Krita does

Krita is a well-known free painting program that also runs on Android tablets and Chromebooks. It brings a full set of brushes, layers, comic tools and animation. The Android version is still a beta and is not available for phones.

Free, with desktop-style painting tools
Multiple brush engines and line stabilizers
Layers with masks and styles
Comic project tools
Frame-by-frame animation with onion skinning
Runs on Android tablets and Chromebooks

Krita is a free painting program made by the Krita Foundation, used for illustration, comics, concept art and animation. The Android version puts that same toolset on a tablet or Chromebook, which is rare for a free app.

You get many brush engines and stabilizers for smooth lines, drawing assistants, layers with masks and styles, comic project tools and frame-by-frame animation with onion skinning. It opens and saves PSD files, and a recent update added video export on Android.

Be clear about the limits. The developers call it a beta that is not ready for real work yet, the screen is designed for big displays, and there is no phone version. Ratings on Google Play are mixed.

If you have a Chromebook or a large Android tablet and want desktop-style tools for free, it is worth trying. For a smoother tablet experience today, Infinite Painter or Clip Studio Paint are safer picks.
