What PDFgear Scan does
PDFgear Scan is a free scanner for iPhone, iPad and Android from the makers of the PDFgear PDF editor. It crops and straightens pages, recognizes text, and exports PDF, Word, TXT or images. An AI chat can summarize a scan or answer questions about it. The App Store lists no in-app purchases.
PDFgear Scan doesn't ask for money right now. The App Store page shows no in-app purchases, and a 2025 Android Authority write-up describes it as completely free, while noting that paid options could come later.
It has modes for contracts, receipts, invoices, IDs and barcodes, auto crops and straightens pages, and lets you reorder or delete pages and add a signature. Text recognition pulls out text you can export to Word or TXT, and an AI chat can summarize a document or find a specific detail. Receipts can be sorted into an expense list.
It's newer than the classics (it launched in 2023), so it has fewer ratings. The App Store privacy section lists data used for third-party advertising, so check for ads yourself. If you want a free scanner that also exports to Word, it's worth a try.
