What Speak & Translate does
Speak & Translate is a voice-first translator for iPhone and iPad. Talk and it speaks the translation back, in 54 voice languages, while text works in 117. Premium adds Snap Mode for photos and menus, offline mode, unlimited translations and no ads.
The idea is simple: say it, hear it. You talk into the phone and the translation plays out loud, which works well for asking quick questions while traveling. Typing works too, across a longer list of languages.
The free version has ads and limits on how much you can translate. Premium removes both and adds Snap Mode, which translates text in photos you take, plus an offline mode with downloaded language packs to avoid roaming charges.
It comes from the same owner as iTranslate, and it is a big, well-rated app. But the weekly plan is easy to forget about, and free apps like Google Translate or Apple Translate already cover voice, camera and offline at no cost.
