Transcribe is a long-running speech to text app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. You record in the app or bring in audio and video files, and it hands back a transcript you can edit, translate and export. You get 30 free minutes, then pay monthly or by the hour.

Transcribe does one job and has done it since 2017. Share a voice memo, a WhatsApp voice note or a video into the app, or record with its built-in recorder, and you get text back. It can pull files from cloud storage too, which helps if your recordings live on a laptop.

It lists more than 100 languages and dialects for transcription and 40 or so for translation. Plain text export is free for everyone, while Word, PDF and SRT subtitle files need Pro. Your transcripts and unused time credits stay put even if you cancel.

The pricing is flexible, which is the nice part. If you only have the odd interview, buy an hour or ten instead of subscribing. If you transcribe every day, Pro adds unlimited live transcription plus five hours of file transcription a month. It's Apple only, so Android owners need another pick.
