Voice Dream Reader
An app that reads PDFs, EPUBs and web pages with custom highlighting.
What Voice Dream Reader does
Voice Dream Reader is a read-aloud app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, long used by readers with dyslexia and low vision. It reads PDFs, EPUBs, Word files, PowerPoint and web pages, with lots of control over fonts, spacing, highlighting and voices.
Voice Dream Reader has been a go-to reading tool on iPhone and iPad since 2012. It shines when you need the text to look a certain way while you listen: you can change the font, spacing and highlighting, pick a voice, set the speed, and fix how tricky words are pronounced. It also works with accessible book services like Bookshare and Learning Ally.
You can import PDFs, EPUBs, Word and PowerPoint files and web pages, then listen offline and sync your library between your devices. It's still being updated in 2026.
The big change came in 2024, when the app switched from a one-time purchase to a subscription, and some long-time fans were not happy about it. It's Apple only, so Android owners should look elsewhere. If you rely on detailed visual settings while you read, it's still one of the most flexible options.
