Weather Underground
An app that uses nearby home weather stations for local forecasts.
What Weather Underground does
Weather Underground (Wunderground) is a forecast app built around a network of personal weather stations that people run at home. That gives you readings from very close to where you are. It has radar, satellite, severe alerts and air quality, and it's free with ads.
Most weather apps lean on big government models. Weather Underground adds readings from a huge network of backyard weather stations, so the current temperature and rain can reflect your actual neighborhood, not the airport across town. That's the main reason weather fans like it.
You get an interactive radar with map layers, satellite images and location-based severe weather alerts. There's also air quality, UV and flu data. Premium removes ads and adds Smart Forecasts, which rate the conditions for activities you pick, plus longer hourly forecasts.
Two things to know. The iPhone app's last update was in June 2025, while the Android app is updated more often and rates higher. And it isn't on Apple Watch. If you want hyperlocal readings and a cheap way to drop ads, it's a good choice.
