What ArcGIS Field Maps does
ArcGIS Field Maps is Esri's mobile map app for iPhone and Android. Anyone can open public maps that organizations share, without signing in. With an organizational ArcGIS account, crews can also collect data, run inspections and work offline.
Field Maps is a work app first. Utilities, cities and agencies use it to find assets, fill in inspection forms, attach photos and sync edits back to the office. Its store ratings are low, so expect a tool built for organizations, not a casual map app.
The useful part for everyone else is this: the store listing says public maps shared by organizations can be viewed without signing in. So if a county, city or agency shares a public map built on ArcGIS, such as a parcel or zoning viewer, you may be able to open it here and see your location on it. You can also measure distance and area and use a compass to navigate.
Collecting or editing data needs an ArcGIS organizational account. Offline areas, location sharing and external GPS receivers are part of the work setup.
Whatever map you open, parcel lines in a public GIS viewer are for reference only. They are not a legal survey. For an exact boundary, ask a licensed surveyor.
