What Avenza Maps does
Avenza Maps is an offline map app for iPhone and Android. You load a geo-referenced PDF or GeoTIFF map, or get one from its map store, and it shows your location on it with no signal. You can record tracks, drop placemarks and measure distance and area.
Avenza does one thing really well. Lots of maps exist as PDFs, like trail maps, topo sheets, land use maps and survey plats. If a map is geo-referenced, Avenza can put your live GPS dot on it, even with no cell service.
You can import your own PDF, GeoPDF or GeoTIFF maps, or download free and paid maps from the built-in map store, which includes topo, land use, utility, nautical and survey data. On top of the map you can record tracks, drop placemarks with photos and notes, measure distance and area, and import or export KML, GPX and CSV files.
Avenza doesn't have its own property line or owner database. If you want to see boundaries, you need a map that already shows them. And whatever map you load, your phone's GPS dot isn't a legal survey, so use it to find your way, not to settle where a line is.
The free plan covers basic use. Plus allows up to 20 of your own map imports, and Pro is for work, school and government use.
