What QField for QGIS does

QField is the mobile companion to QGIS, the popular desktop mapping software. You set up a project on your computer, send it to your phone or tablet, and then view and edit points, lines and areas in the field, even offline. It works with internal GPS or external receivers.

Opens QGIS projects on your phone or tablet
Offline viewing and editing
Custom forms, map themes and print layouts
External GNSS receiver support
Reads GeoPackage, shapefile, GeoJSON and GeoTIFF
Optional cloud sync with QFieldCloud

QField is for people who already use QGIS, or who are willing to learn it. You build the map on a computer, with your layers, forms and styles, and QField opens that same project on iPhone or Android so you can collect and fix data on site.

It reads common map formats like GeoPackage, shapefiles, GeoJSON and GeoTIFF, so a parcel layer you download from a county or state can sit right next to your own data. Edits work offline. You can sync with the optional QFieldCloud service or just move files by cable, email or SD card. It connects to external GNSS receivers over Bluetooth and other links, and shows live accuracy, altitude and direction.

QField shows whatever layers you give it. Parcel lines from public data are approximate, and even precise GPS gear doesn't turn an app into a legal survey. Official boundaries come from a licensed surveyor.

If you just want to see property lines on your phone, a parcel app is far simpler. If you do real GIS work, QField is a strong free option.
