magicplan
An app that turns a room scan into a floor plan, report and estimate.
What magicplan does
magicplan is a floor plan app built for people who renovate, restore or handle insurance claims. You create a plan with your phone camera or by drawing, then add photos, notes, objects and checklists, and turn it into reports and estimates. It's on iPhone, iPad and Android and has been around since 2011.
magicplan starts like other room scanners: you use the camera, draw by hand or connect a laser measure, and the app builds the floor plan in real time. Where it pulls ahead is everything that comes after the plan.
You can drop photos and notes into each room, place objects and equipment, fill in forms and checklists, and capture 360 degree panoramas. Then the app turns all of that into reports, price lists and estimates. It also connects with Xactimate and CoreLogic, two tools used in insurance and restoration work.
That focus shows in the pricing. The free version covers up to two projects, which is enough to try it on your own home. Paid plans on the US App Store start at $12.99 a month for Sketch and climb to $89.99 a month for Estimate. If you only want to see if a sofa fits, this is more than you need. If you quote jobs for a living, it's built for that work.
