Dext
An app that sends your receipts and bills straight to your books.
What Dext does
Dext (once called Receipt Bank) captures receipts, bills and invoices and sends the details to your accounting software. You snap a photo or email a document in, and it pulls out the numbers so you or your bookkeeper don't type them. It's made for businesses with a steady flow of paperwork.
Dext is less a personal receipt app and more a pipeline into your books. You photograph receipts and invoices in the app (one at a time, several at once, or long multi-page bills), or forward them to your own Dext email address. It reads the supplier, date, amount and tax, then publishes the result to QuickBooks Online or Xero, with Sage and others supported from the web.
Inside, documents are split into costs, sales and expense reports. Staff can submit expense claims for approval. Paid add-ons cover things like line item details and bank statement extraction, priced on top of the base plan.
This is a tool for businesses that deal with a lot of paper, like trades, restaurants or shops, and for bookkeepers who manage several clients. If you only have a few receipts a month, the price is hard to justify and the free receipt tools inside many accounting apps may be enough.
