What Nike Run Club does

Nike Run Club (NRC) is a free running app from Nike. It tracks your runs with GPS, and its guided runs put a coach's voice in your ear while you go. There are training plans for beginners up to the half marathon, plus challenges and a shoe mileage tracker.

Audio-guided runs with Nike coaches
Training plans for beginners, 5K, 10K and half marathon
GPS tracking with pace, distance, elevation and heart rate
Shoe tracker that counts miles on each pair
Challenges and badges with friends
Apple Watch app and Apple Health sync

NRC's best feature is the guided runs. You pick one, press start, and a Nike coach talks you through it: when to push, when to ease off, and what to think about. There are short easy runs, speed sessions, treadmill runs and mindful runs. For a lot of new runners, a friendly voice is what gets them out the door.

Training plans build toward goals like a 5K, 10K or half marathon, and there's a plan for beginners too. Along the way it tracks pace, distance, elevation and heart rate, and keeps a count of miles on each pair of shoes so you know when to replace them. Challenges and badges add a little game to it.

It's all free, which is rare. The tradeoffs: you need a Nike account, some plans and guided runs are only offered in certain countries, and it's more about motivation than deep stats. If you want detailed analysis or a plan that adapts to your race time, a paid coaching app does more.
