Peloton
An app that streams live and on-demand classes, no bike needed.
What Peloton does
The Peloton app gives you Peloton's instructors and classes without buying a bike or treadmill. You get live and on-demand classes for strength, yoga, pilates, stretching, meditation, cardio, outdoor running and walking. It needs a paid App Membership, starting at $15.99 a month.
Peloton is known for its bikes, but the app works on its own. Open it on your phone, tablet or TV and join a live class or pick one on demand. Instructors lead strength, yoga, pilates, stretching, HIIT, walking and outdoor running sessions, with or without equipment.
Filters help you find the right class by length, muscle group, instructor or music. You can stack a few classes into one session, schedule them and bookmark favorites. Programs and challenges add structure, and it tracks your activity, with heart rate from a monitor or watch.
The big draw is the instructors and the energy of the classes, which many people find motivating. The catch is that it's a paid membership, and the higher App+ tier costs nearly double. If you love studio-style classes and will use it often, it's worth a look. If you want free, FitOn and Nike Training Club cover a lot of the same ground.
