Windy.com is a weather map app for sailors, pilots, surfers, paragliders and anyone who wants to see the weather, not just read it. It shows animated wind, rain, radar and satellite on a global map, and lets you compare major forecast models. The core app is free with no ads.
Windy opens on a moving map of wind flowing across the planet. From there you can switch to rain, temperature, clouds, waves, radar, satellite and dozens of other layers, and compare forecasts from the big global models side by side. It's a clear way to see why forecasts disagree.
It's packed with tools for outdoor sports and flying: webcams, weather stations, surf and paragliding spots, tide forecasts, altitude levels and airport reports. You can set your own alerts for wind, sun or snow, and get live rain and storm alerts. It works on Apple Watch, Wear OS and CarPlay, and has widgets.
The free version is remarkably complete and has no ads. Premium adds longer forecasts and radar archives. If you just want a quick daily forecast, it can feel like a lot, but for planning around wind and waves it's a great fit.
